Global animal feed market overview on July 1, 2026
The global animal feed ingredients market on July 1, 2026 recorded mixed movements across major commodity exchanges. CBOT corn, wheat and soybeans rebounded after the latest USDA quarterly reports, while soybean oil, palm oil and crude oil declined. Freight indicators also showed different trends, with the Baltic Dry Index moving slightly higher while the World Container Index remained unchanged.
CBOT corn prices recovered after USDA report
CBOT corn futures closed higher in the latest session. The July 2026 contract reached 162.4 USD/ton, up 4.2 USD/ton, while the September 2026 contract rose to 164.0 USD/ton, up 2.5 USD/ton. The December 2026 contract also increased to 171.6 USD/ton, up 2.4 USD/ton.
The recovery was mainly supported by USDA data showing lower-than-expected U.S. corn planted area and stock figures. However, the market still needs to monitor harvest progress in South America, especially Brazil, which may continue to influence global corn supply in the short term.
Wheat prices also moved higher
CBOT soft red winter wheat prices increased across key contracts. The July 2026 contract closed at 213.3 USD/ton, up 4.1 USD/ton. The September 2026 contract reached 216.5 USD/ton, up 3.5 USD/ton, while the December contract was quoted at 222.1 USD/ton, up 2.7 USD/ton.
Wheat prices were supported by USDA estimates of lower U.S. wheat planted area and stock levels. Weather conditions and harvest progress in major producing countries remain important factors for the next trading sessions.
Soybeans recovered, soybean meal remained stable
CBOT soybean futures also posted gains. The July 2026 soybean contract closed at 410.3 USD/ton, up 2.9 USD/ton. The August contract reached 413.1 USD/ton, up 1.8 USD/ton, while the September contract was quoted at 414.7 USD/ton, up 1.7 USD/ton.
Soybean meal was more stable. The July 2026 soybean meal contract stood at 335.9 USD/ton, unchanged from the previous session. The August and September contracts edged higher to 335.1 USD/ton and 332.9 USD/ton, respectively.
Soybean oil and palm oil declined
Vegetable oil prices weakened significantly. CBOT soybean oil for July 2026 fell to 1,470.0 USD/ton, down 51.3 USD/ton. The August contract decreased to 1,474.2 USD/ton, down 42.5 USD/ton, while the September contract dropped to 1,463.4 USD/ton, down 35.2 USD/ton.
Palm oil on Bursa Malaysia also moved lower, with the September 2026 contract at 1,115.0 USD/ton, down 12.6 USD/ton. The decline was linked to weaker crude oil prices and pressure from the broader vegetable oil market.
Freight and other commodity indicators
The Baltic Dry Index rose slightly to 2,501 points, up 11 points, indicating a mild improvement in dry bulk freight demand. Meanwhile, the Drewry World Container Index remained unchanged at 4,166 USD per 40-foot container. WTI crude oil fell to 69.5 USD/barrel, down 1.3 USD/barrel.
Short-term outlook
In the short term, global feed ingredient prices may continue to fluctuate as traders digest USDA data and monitor weather conditions, crop progress and export demand. Corn, wheat and soybeans may remain supported if supply concerns persist, while vegetable oils could stay under pressure if crude oil prices remain weak.
